UIITE has developed a software that allows teachers to upload Microsoft Word documents into Moodle as web-page resources. What problems does it solve?

  • Equations and other vector objects look smoother than after saving the document with standard "File -- Save as web-page" feature.

  • After uploading you may continue editing your document using Moodle interface.

  • This way is easier ;-)

It consists of two parts:

  • Server part is a PHP script which must be copied into Moodle directory on server by Moodle administrator.

  • Client part is a windows program that converts Microsoft Word document to HTML file and uploads it to server.

Before you start, you need to specify URL of uploader.php script in the Settings window. This URL you can get from your Moodle administrator.

Save your settings and return to main Uploader window.

Step 1. Authentication.

Enter your Moodle login and password and click the "Open file..." button. Select the Microsoft Word document you want to upload into Moodle as a web-page resource.

If you get a "Protocol error" message, check the URL of uploader.php script in your Settings window.

Step 2. Choose a course.

After authentication you'll be asked for a course where your document should be uploaded. Select the course from the list and click the "OK" button.

Step 3. Choose what to do with your document:

a. Insert into the specified course section;
b. Replace the existing resource in the course.

Enter resource name and click OK.

Step 4. Uploading.

Moodle Uploader launches Microsoft Word, converts .doc to .html format and uploads it (with images) into your course.

Before conversion it's recommended to close all Word documents and not to use clipboard until upload completes.

Thanks for your attention :-)
